The incredible love story of a disabled couple on their journey for independence, through struggles and triumphs, to make the most of their lives together.

Jason & Joey Rhode

Jason Rhode is a prolific artist, painter and photographer, as well as a writer of thriller novels and children’s stories. He co-hosts the ‘Two Feet Below’ YouTube channel with his wife, Joey. He enjoys going for walks, having adventures, and attending concerts. Born with Spina Bifida and abandoned in a hospital for months, Jason now lives life with a sense of humor, a creative drive, and unwavering determination.

Joey Rhode is the author of several fantasy books, has published poetry compilations, and co-hosts the YouTube channel ‘Two Feet Below’. She loves going to concerts, getting tattoos, and is the proud mom of Milo and Lou-e, her two adorable pups. Despite having developed Cerebral Palsy at four months old due to a blood infection, Joey doesn’t let that slow her down.

the film

Two Feet Below is a love story about Joey and Jason Rhode, a self-described “crip” couple who have been married 22 years and who live life to the fullest. Whether writing novels and poetry, creating paintings and photographs, going to concerts or getting tattoos, they overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to be just like regular folks. Despite facing challenges with mobility, medical care, and public misconceptions, together they find a way. There’s never been another couple quite like them, and here they offer their perspective from two feet below everyone else.

Joey and Jason. It’s them against the world. They live life on their own terms and want to be seen the same as anyone else, with no pity or patronization. As Jason says, “warts and all.” Their story is no fluff; the good, the bad, and the “fugly.” It’s a tale of finding unlikely love and sustaining that over a lifetime. Their hope is to raise awareness about their conditions and the difficulties they bring. A broken health care system, the misunderstanding of others, and physical limitations all stand in their way. In their own words, alongside with friends and family, this is a window into their world, the simple things most take for granted, and how these two extraordinary human beings manage to persist.
